|Autumn Trails Car Show in
I'm a member of RRTC and I am hereby inviting
our fellow club members to join me for Winnsboro's Autumn Trails Car
Show this fall.
Venue: Autumn Trails Car Show, Winnsboro, TX, about
100 miles east of Dallas
Date and Time: Saturday, October 28, 2006. Around 9:15 AM line up
the cars west of Winnsboro on Hwy 11.
The parade into town starts at 10 AM. We
drive into Winnsboro and park in the center of town
for spectators to view the cars.
Each weekend in October Autumn Trails features a different event. The
two most prominent events are the trail ride, which draws thousands of
horseback riders, and the car show, which features 200-300 cars.
This car show has been going on for over 40 years, and it's advertised
as the biggest car show between Dallas and Shreveport. The whole town
turns out for the event. Hundreds of people line the streets for a
mile or so, and local churches and clubs set up booths to sell food
and soft drinks. The atmosphere is festive, and the weather is
usually cool and pleasant.
Most of the cars are Model A's, Model T's, old Fords, Chevys, Buicks,
Packards, vintage Thunderbirds and Corvettes, and muscle cars. I've
driven my TR3A and my Austin Healey in the parade for several years,
and the uniqueness of the LBCs generates lots of interest. It would
be terrific to have more Triumphs to accompany mine.
The car show ends around noon. In the afternoon Model A and Model T
clubs set up for more display and some competitions in Winnsboro City
For RRTC members wanting to spend the night, Mineola, 27miles south,
has some interesting shops, several nice B&Bs, and a couple of good
restaurants. The Winnsboro Bakery also offers upscale food.
The roads around Winnsboro, Pine Mills, Hainesville, and Mineola are
curvy and pretty. They offer some of the best driving I've found in
Texas. I'll be happy to organize a drive for anyone interested.
I'm also extending this invitation to the North Texas Austin Healey
Club, of which I'm a member. It would be great fun for a number of
LBCs to participate in Autumn Trails. The locals would love it.
Will you please place this fun event on the club calendar? If anyone
